Jessica Shaw MLA to hold Marriage Equality Enrolment Drive this Saturday

Local Labor Member for Swan Hills, Jessica Shaw, has expressed her support for Marriage Equality and invited the Ellenbrook community to join her for a BBQ enrolment drive, to make sure all community members can have their say in the upcoming postal opinion poll.

The event will be held at Jessica’s offices at The Vale Shopping Centre in Aveley from midday on Saturday the 19th.

Ms Shaw noted that local Federal Member Christian Porter MP has expressed his support for Marriage Equality, but expressed disappointment that the vast majority of Liberals were determined to ignore the views of ordinary Australians.

“An overwhelming number of people in Swan Hills have told me that they support Marriage Equality. They see this $122 million dollar opinion poll as an extraordinary waste of taxpayer’s money – particularly when Liberal members have already said they won’t be bound by it.” Ms Shaw said.

“The Liberals are trying to put off the inevitable, but if they insist on holding this poll, it’s vital that everyone’s voice is heard” Ms Shaw said.

“The Liberals are relying on people not voting; they’re relying on young people not being registered, and they’re relying on people not getting their ballot returned in time.”

“It’s up to us to make sure that Malcolm Turnbull understands that the people of Ellenbrook support equal rights and marriage equality for all of our citizens.”

“You must be enrolled by 24th of August to make your vote count.”

“I’m putting on this BBQ and inviting the community along so that we can show our support for LGBTIQ friends, family, and community members.”

All proceeds from the gold coin donation BBQ will be donated to mental health charities, to support LGBTIQ individuals that may experience anxiety and depression over the course of the Marriage Equality campaign.
