Media release: Community excited about METRONET coming to Ellenbrook

  • Recent survey shows community excited about Morley – Ellenbrook line
  • 687 people completed online survey and hundreds visited drop-in information sessions
  • 84 per cent of people surveyed feel positive about project
  • 80 per cent said METRONET will positively impact their suburb
  • 77 per cent said METRONET will positively impact them directly
  • McGowan Government recently announced the route and stations for the newest job-creating METRONET project

A survey of 687 local community residents showed a whopping 84 per cent of respondents feel positive about the Morley – Ellenbrook line coming to their suburb.

Swan Hills MLA Jessica Shaw said there has been overwhelming levels of community involvement and support for the latest job-creating METRONET project from local residents.

Following the McGowan Government’s August announcement of the route and station locations for the much anticipated Morley-Ellenbrook line, hundreds of locals attended community information sessions and had their say through an online survey.

Almost half of the 687 respondents were from Ellenbrook, clearly highlighting how highly anticipated the project is for Swan Hills’ residents.

A major McGowan Government election commitment, the 21km line will run from Bayswater through Morley to Ellenbrook creating thousands of local jobs over the life of the project.

Works will begin later this year with upgrades to Bayswater Station.

Comments attributed to Swan Hills MLA Jessica Shaw:

“These survey results show the overwhelming support for the Morley – Ellenbrook line from local residents.

“I receive similar positive feedback in my office, at community events and as I doorknock. People tell me they are excited and can’t wait for the train.

“This was one of my key election commitments and I’m pleased to be a part of a McGowan Government that is delivering for the north – eastern suburbs.

“This project will create thousands of local jobs over its lifetime and when complete almost halve the amount of travel time from Ellenbrook to Perth on public transport.”
